About Monster Card Generator

A combat prep tool built by a DM who got tired of flipping through books mid-fight.

Why this exists

I had a great set of monster initiative cards for 5e. A nice organized box set with all the monsters I wanted, sitting on my DM screen with the stat blocks right where I needed. It made combat fast and smooth, avoiding the need to flip through books, scroll through PDFs, or ask ChatGPT.

Then I switched to the 2024 ruleset. The monsters changed, the stat blocks shifted, and my cards were suddenly wrong. I went looking for a replacement and found nothing suitable. Every existing tool only covered the 2014 Monster Manual, and none of them touched the supplements and third-party books I run.

So I built this.

The Problem

Running combat in tabletop RPGs means constantly referencing creature stats. You flip between books, scroll through PDFs, or tap around on your phone while your players wait and the pacing dies.

The existing card-printing tools I could find were locked to official 5e content - the core Monster Manual and nothing else. No supplements, no adventures, no third-party content.

Then once 5.5e came out, if you switched to the 2024 ruleset like I did, you were just out of luck. Sure they have blank cards, but I don’t want to have to fill out all the stats manually.

The Solution

Monster Card Generator creates printable tent cards that fold over your DM screen. One side shows the creature art and name (visible to players), the other shows the complete stat block - AC, HP, speed, abilities, attacks with damage dice, traits, actions, reactions, legendary actions, all of it - visible only to you.

It pulls from the SRD and community content, as well as any custom creatures you’ve created. The cards auto-scale to fit the content, so a simple goblin card looks clean and a Vampire stat block doesn’t overflow.

Print at 100% scale, cut along the dashed guides, fold at the 1/3 mark. Done.
